The Quiet Guardian
The Story
The Quiet Guardian:
A Sanctuary for the Steadfast
The road you’ve walked has been longer than you ever imagined.
And somehow, you are still striding forward.
Inspired by the depths of surrealist art and the great inner journey we all take, this piece captures a steadfast horse, a quiet, small figure, and a single golden umbrella raised against the expanse. It evokes the sacred, gentle protection found in The Little Prince, or the extraordinary resilience of a father weathering life's storms in The Pursuit of Happyness.
For far too long, the world has treated the journey as a lesson in speed—a race to see who crosses the finish line first. But the true meaning of the journey lies in a different dimension entirely. It is about the grace and composure you hold when carrying the heaviest responsibilities, and who you choose to shelter along the way.
This sculpture takes that original meaning to heart. It is not a frantic sprint to the end, but a deliberate, peaceful march through the storms. Endurance is not merely about survival. It is about what you fight to keep safe.
We often forget how to appreciate the quiet providers. The world applauds the overnight successes and the loud victories, but it overlooks the decades of early mornings. The unseen burdens. The times you chose to stand firm when everything else was falling apart. Life didn't ask for your permission to bring the rain, but you didn't need permission to become the shelter.
The figures here are not struggling, rushing, or breaking down. They are enduring with quiet pride. The matte black horse, with its calm, steady stride, is the silent strength that has carried the weight of the years. The small figure balancing on its back represents what matters most—your family, your purest dreams, or your own inner peace.
And the radiant golden umbrella reaching upward is not a surrender to the weather; it is optimism. A small, unyielding choice to hold onto the light when the sky turns gray. It is the answer to the only question that truly matters: What will I choose to protect today?
You are defined by what you carry through the storms. Choose your light.
Because every sacrifice, every silent worry, every hard-fought year—none of it faded away. It stayed. It built you. Just as ten thousand small stones create an impenetrable wall. After walking through enough storms, you realize you didn’t just weather the rain. You became the shelter.
That is the true essence of this piece. A quiet, enduring commitment to a profound kind of love—one built carefully, step by step, with all the strength it deserves.
Material & Form
Marking a bold new chapter for Decoava, this is our very first piece crafted entirely from metal. Stepping beyond our traditional stone resin, it is forged from durable, solid iron while retaining our signature artistic depth. The piece is finished in a striking matte black. The most brilliant focal point is the golden umbrella, which catches the light beautifully thanks to its finely textured metallic surface. The elegant, elongated legs of the horse stand in striking contrast to the solid rectangular base beneath it, creating an aesthetic of absolute, grounded balance.
It is the weight of a long journey.
It is the color of hope, fiercely protected.
For the ones who carried the weight.
For the ones who held the light.

About the artist
Ava Mitchell — Kamakura, Japan
Trained at RISD and Yale, Ava spent fifteen years in the New York gallery world before walking away to find her own voice. After four years of deliberate silence in Japan — studying with a ceramics master, practicing Zen meditation, and learning to honor empty space — she returned to clay with a quiet clarity. Today, she sculpts from a restored wooden house in Kamakura, where American minimalism meets the Japanese philosophy of ma: the beauty of what is left unsaid.
Quiet Resilience
The Silent Strength
Life is a long journey, and this matte black horse represents the silent strength that has carried you through every challenge. It is never rushed or loud. It embodies the quiet resilience of a provider, always stepping forward with immense pride despite life’s unpredictable highs and lows.
Radiant Optimism
The Golden Shield of Optimism
The golden umbrella raised high is not a defense mechanism, but a steadfast promise to protect what you cherish most. It represents unwavering optimism and the golden years you have diligently built, ensuring the light continues to shine brightly even when the skies inevitably turn gray.
Inner Peace
The Inner Equilibrium
The small figure standing firmly on the horse’s back is the very center of peace. At this stage in life, you understand that true happiness isn't found in a frantic race, but in maintaining inner tranquility, staying grounded, and fiercely cherishing the core values of your family.
Elevated Wisdom
The Elevated Perspective
The elegantly elongated legs playfully lift the figures above the chaotic clutter of everyday life. This surrealist touch reflects the profound wisdom and broadened perspective of someone who has seen it all. You are no longer swept up in the storm; you have truly become the sanctuary.
